Information, Animation and Eurovision » 3rd Wednesdays

Oh, hi there!
So after an interminable hiatus, 3rd Wednesdays was back in business this week with a talk hosted by Steve, our resident Social Media Ninja, and pies baked, née Designed, by Nick.
This month we started off by taking a look at the 3rd Wednesdays newsletter: The Creativity Baked-In Daily on Paper.li:

The Daily features news and articles pooled from across the web covering things like design, typography and other interseting bits and pieces. You can check it out and become a subscriber //here//

We then took a look at a fascinating behind-the-scenes video by Magnetic Dreams, an animation studio based in Nashville, Tennessee, that explored the processes involved in transforming a beautifully illustrated graphic novel into an immersive animated film:
Unlike motion comics that effectively push and pull images from popular comics to create an animated alternative, the film above demonstrates an approach that integrates the unique visual style of original artist Esad Ribic with a fully-rendered 3D world.
I would like to say I’ll now be checking out the finished film, but it’s not available on iTunes in the UK, only in the USA. What’s that about?
We rounded off this month’s 3rd Wednesday meet-up with a little activity. As you may or may not be aware, we’ve created the visual identity for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. I decided to create something of an interactive history lesson by compiling every Eurovision logo there’s ever been, grouping them into decades and then getting everyone at 3rd Wednesday to jot down a mini-critique for each and to choose their favourite.

To set the tone for this task I played Je T’aime…Moi Non Plus by Serge Gainsbourg in the background and gave the group as long as it took for the song to play through twice. The results of this creative mini-survey will be published on the blog soon!
The pies this month were a sumptuously Sweet and Spicy Beef and Pork Pie and a culinary interpretation of Nigel Slater’s Root Vegetable Korma…in a pie!

Nick always goes the extra mile and was pleased to inform us that he’d made the pastry himself (after four attempts) and we all agreed that it was well worth the effort.

Next month we’ll be treated to pie from Steve, one of our Motion Design supremo’s, and a talk from Designer par excellence Charlie.
