UK Happy To Pay For VOD

A recent study by KPMG has shown that almost 64% of consumers in the UK would be happy and willing to pay to stream movies online.

Industry analysts expect this number to grow, especially with platforms like Netflix entering the UK market, and targeting key consumer segments as it seeks to draw customers from rivals like LoveFilm and Sky Go.

The study shows that public awareness of VOD services is high, with nine out of ten people having at least heard of BBC iPlayer, but despite nearly two-thirds of respondents saying that they would be willing to pay for Film content only 30% said that they would pay for Television programmes online.

With the rise of content accessibility via mobile tech, including tablet computers and smartphones, and integration with videogame consoles, it makes sense that consumers are adapting to paying for movie content.

But the prevailing mindset of consumers who pay a license fee for television is going to make it a hard sell for content providers to charge for tv shows online.
