It may have taken the United States a while to catch on, but a passion for football (sorry, ‘soccer’) has definitely caught on across the Atlantic. While 6 million viewers tuned in to watch the match on the ESPN sports network, a record 1.1 million unique viewers watched the game online, logging in an average viewing time of 43 minutes. With the news of Channel 4’s internal reshuffle to accommodate the growing importance of broadcasters online content, we’re definitely seeing a broad upswing in the prominence of television viewing online.
